Foreign Minister Picked, Next Step Is Baabda!

Word is out that Seniora has made his pick for the Foreign Minister position: Ambassador Fawzi Salloukh, the Secretary General of the Islamic University of Lebanon. I did my internet search and found no pictures of him and learned very little of his background. If anyone knows more about him, please share it with us...we're all curious.

Seniora reminded us on the eve of his visit to Baabda that this is the first "Lebanese" government formed in 30 years...

The ball is in Lahoud's court now!

"Nobody knows how many rebellions, besides political rebellions, ferment in the masses of life which people earth."

quik note: former ambassador, mostly in african countries, not necessarily close to hezbollah. (closer to a mahmoud hammoud than a jihad mortada). more later.

I have never heard of his name before. I hope he will be a "Damianos Kattar type" of minister, i.e. a huge unknown potential in the shadow of Lebanese Politics, who will show his real abilities once in place. The Foreign Affairs ministry is a very important institution and its role will be primary in the coming period. The only sad thing is that, if it is true that Salloukh is far from Hezbollah/Amal, the ministry of Foreign Affairs would have been the victim of sectarian interests: all what the Shias would have lobbied for is their sect's control of the Foreign Ministry. That's the second time Berri and co. do this after they previously considered that the position of the head of the Sureté Générale became a "possession" of their sect.... And then they want us to trust their intentions when they talk about "non-sectarian politics"!

I'm sure he will fill the shoes of Charles Malek nicely. We go from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to the Secretary General of the Islamic University.

If this guy represents the will of the Lebanese citizen when it comes to foreign affairs, then I'm becoming less and less of a Lebanese citizen.

if he was the embassador to Nigeria, then i'm sure he scores very well on corruption ;)

2:00 AM Beirut Time: Tuesday's Assafir is now online (assafir.com). They say Lahoud still wants Murr for Defense and Rizk for some other portfolio. Some changes will come up, as too many maronites are in for the porfolios. So Aoun will have to replace one of his two maronite ministers with a Greek Orthodox.

I'm still waiting for Annahar to go online. They should have answers on the Interior.
